Releasing 'Lightbulb' by Slowforce

a single, and soon, an album!
3

Releasing music in 2024 is different than it was when I put my first record out in 2006. Even back then, when I released ‘Forget Me Not’ I felt like I didn’t know what I was doing. Yet, a few things worked, and the City of Columbus knew about it and showed up to support the release show and sell out Little Brothers in the Short North. The Columbus Dispatch wrote an article about it (still grateful to Aaron Beck for his thoughtful words at that time). Now that record is out of print and old enough to vote!

I am still making records.

There are lots of strategies out there and lots of platforms. My head nearly exploded the other day when Bob Lewis and I gathered to work on the logistics of releasing our LP ‘SHIFT’ - the debut full length record by our band named ‘SLOWFORCE.’

Even keeping track of the various passwords linked to the different places music can be consumed is mind boggling and we had to laugh at ourselves going down various rabbit holes just to emerge with a simple online presence. Being in a duo is good for this though, because we can use our magical strengths to overcome the frustration that may occur when one is doing this all alone. Lo and behold, the music is coming out next week and we are playing a show to commemorate that on Tuesday October 8th, 2024 at The 5 Spot’s ‘Tight 5 Tuesdays.’

We released this video for Track #1, called LIGHTBULB, which may or may not show up on Spotify, but it IS on Bandcamp (where we get 100% more revenue, hint hint) and sometime this weekend, I may manage to get the whole dang record up there too.

lightbulb is about the people in life who lift you up and elevate your vibration. lightbulb turns on love & makes the world brighter and more beautiful

We made this video with Stacie Huckeba who took our vision and turned it into reality. We filmed it out at the shop in Pegram, TN with some help from Patrick Newby and I’m driving Patrick’s truck in the beginning of the video.

I am sooo proud of this record. I swear we started it before the pandemic and wrote the 2nd half of it during the pandemic, and then finally emerged to record the rest of it last year with Dex Green over at 3 Sirens in East Nashville. Dex produced it and we have lots of great guests, including Aaron Lee Tasjan, Erica Blinn, Bryan Owings, Robert Kearns, and Joe Pisapia.

We finalized artwork this past week and Coralee Wilson did an amazing job.

Here is the cover for the single, Lightbulb:

It would make my day if you would give it a listen, and also follow ‘Slowforce’ on the places you consume music. Looking forward to sharing more of this record with you all next week.

love, mp
