Lori signed Hannah up for dance after the baby died. It was an impulse decision she made after seeing an ad for '‘Shelly's Dance Vistas’’ in the St. Francis de Sales weekly bulletin. They always handed them out before church to list the readings and songs, and the ads were all on the back. Lately at church Lori had been squinting at the small printed ads because she was feeling pretty angry with God right now. She had done everything right in the pregnancy. It wasn’t hard. She barely ever had a sip of champagne and had never smoked a cigarette in her life, so why was God punishing her? At the funeral with the tiny casket, the priest had said, ‘Some angels are too perfect for this world,’ and it had made her furious that someone could say something so ridiculous. She just sniffed and looked away, wondering what it would be like to be holding her little boy right now.
